Pegboards are perforated hardboards made from wood or metal with evenly space holes pre-drilled into the board. Pegboards made exclusively of wood hold less weight and are more prone to splinting. The wood finish, however, is aesthetically preferred by some to the metal finish. Metal pegboards are usually made of steel and offer more strength. The holes line the entire board and are used to insert and hold hooks in place. The peg style hooks, sold in various hardware and specialist stores, are sized such that they fit perfectly into the holes and their design holds them into place with the support of their own weight. They do not need any glue or screws to be mounted.
Pegboards can come into all different precut sizes or you can request for one to be cut exactly to the dimensions of your available wall space. When mounting a pegboard, make sure there is sufficient gap between the board and the backing wall so that the peg hooks can be inserted in later.
Pegboards can be used in the garage, the factory, or the home office. The hooks can be placed in any order and arrangement. Pegboards are generally used for hanging tools such as spanners, electric drills, and saws. They can also be used in the home to hang brooms, mops, and ironing boards. Used in a shop, they can be ideal to hang products for display. The only limitation for hanging items on a pegboard is their weight and the design of the peg hooks.
